The Reigate and Redhill Festival – Gary Ryan’s Guitar Day

Thank you to all the parents and students who were involved in Gary Ryan’s Guitar Workshop.

The day started with two guitar ensemble workshops. Gary gave the students a piece arranged for guitar orchestra and then coached the ensemble. I was delighted to hear my students performing Dvorak’s Theme From the New World Symphony after only a forty five minute rehearsal!

The ensembles were followed by master classes. I would encourage any music student to watch a master class if you get the chance. A number of students performed in front of Gary and the audience. He then helped them improve their piece. One of our Hawthorns Guitar Groups was fortunate enough to play in the master class. Gary was very complimentary about their performance of Bach’s Air on a G String and gave them some ideas how to develop the piece.

The afternoon was dedicated to the advanced students. Gary finished the day off with a recital to a packed hall. It was fantastic to see an audience so inspired by a performance. I am sure my students can not wait to see him again!
