Reading Music - G, The Third String

We only have one new note to learn on this string because you already know the open G.

G is the third string played open

A is the second fret on the third string, played with the second finger.

  • guitar back 1
It is important to use your second finger for this note. It may feel a little strange at first and some students are tempted to use their first finger. This always creates problems because your hand will move out of position and you will be unable to find the other notes.

As with your other strings, hover your second finger over the A. Keep your other fingers still when pressing down. Make sure your hand is staying in position and your fingers are doing all the work.
